------------------------------------------------------------------------ D I G S I 4 Info about modem installation under MS Windows NT / 2000 / XP Prof. Ed. 2002-12-18 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ You require administrator rights • for installation of the modem in the Control Panel and • for initialization of the remote modem (once-only). During installation of a modem, set up the following on the workstation PC: 1. Windows Control Panel: Install the modem and note down the name that is assigned to this modem in the Control Panel. 2. Click on the Windows Start menu and select the entry "Run...". Enter the following text in the input field: a) under MS Windows 2000 or NT4.0: "regedt32.exe", b) under MS Windows XP: "regedit.exe". That starts the Registry Editor. 3. Open the path "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\ Control\Class\{4D36E96D-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\" 4. Select from the keys in the path the key that describes the modem recorded above: e.g. "0001". 5. Extend the list of users with access authorization to this key by the modem user. This is done by clicking on the following on the menu bar of the Registry editor: a) Under MS Windows 2000 or NT4.0: Menu "Security > Permissions...", then "Add...". b) Under MS Windows XP: menu "Edit > Permissions...", then "Add...". Set the permission for the user added to "Full Control". Important: ---------- For item 5 you must first log on as an administrator! In DIGSI the users concerned can now communicate with the selected modem without having to have administrator rights for the PC.
